De Quervain’s Disease

De Quervain’s Disease is an inflammation of specific tendons that control the movement of the thumb. Pain can be felt along the back of the wrist, on the thumb side, and is aggravated if extra stress is placed on these specific tendons. It is often caused by maintaining postures for prolonged periods of time or repetitive movements.

Again, the initial treatment involves resting the affected thumb and wrist. Treatment with corticosteroids often gives good results. If symptoms persist, a small incision made near the base of the thumb can eliminate the irritation.
