Labiaplasty is a procedure used for the treatment of labia minora hypertrophy. The associated discomfort occurs mainly during physical activities and sexual intercourse. Personal discomfort may also prompt the patient to see a doctor.
Labiaplasty is carried out under local anesthesia with a mild sedative. An anesthetic cream is first applied to reduce discomfort. Absorbable sutures are used; they usually disappear within two weeks. In general, the scar is barely noticeable and has no consequences.
The duration of the recovery period is about three weeks. However, it is recommended to wait six weeks before having sexual intercourse or engaging in strenuous physical activities.
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled one week after the surgery and a few times thereafter to ensure that proper results are obtained.
