Nipple and Areola in Sherbrooke

What is a Nipple Surgery?

Inverted nipple: this condition is usually congenital. It can make breastfeeding difficult and often cause discomfort in patients. It is caused by the abnormal development of milk ducts, which were not “pushed” out of the areola. This abnormality can be easily treated with a simple surgery.

Nipple reduction: an overly prominent nipple can have its size reduced in terms of diameter or length. A surgery carried out under local anesthesia can solve the problem.

Areola reduction: an excessively large areola can have its diameter reduced using a procedure carried out under local anesthesia. An incision made around the areola will be practically invisible. This procedure can be carried out alone or with breast reduction or breast lift.

The main reasons why people engage in this procedure are the following :

Minor complications

Although nipple surgery is a very safe procedure, some complications may occur, either shortly after the procedure or later on.

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Scarring
  • Asymmetry
  • Recurrence

Changes in nipple sensitivity: an increase, a decrease, or a complete loss of sensation may occur after breast augmentation. In the vast majority of cases, these changes in sensitivity are temporary.

After the surgery

In the case of treatment for an inverted nipple, breastfeeding will no longer be possible afterward, as the milk ducts will have been severed.
