Arthrosis
Arthrosis, or the wear and tear of the joints, may affect virtually all joints of the hand. This condition can be degenerative, caused by wear and tear, or secondary to certain diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis. In general, patients have arthrosis affecting the joint at the base of the thumb (root arthrosis) or the other fingers (distal phalanx is involved).
Rest and change in activities or medication (orally or by injection) may improve the symptoms. However, a surgical approach is often associated with longer-term results.
