Excision of lesions
Excision of lesions involves the removal of defects on the surface or under the skin. All types of nevi, keratoses, acrochordons and cysts are treated. Many skin lesions are benign and are therefore essentially esthetic and not harmful to the body, which is why they are not covered by the RAMQ. However, it is suggested that they be removed to prevent any degeneration. It is possible to remove them by means of surgery or esthetic laser treatment using the best possible techniques to avoid recurrence.
Reparation
No preparation is necessary before surgery. The procedure and consultation are usually done in the same session, at the first appointment.
Process
After disinfection of the area, the excision of lesions is performed under local anesthesia and generally lasts between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the location of the skin defect and the difficulty of the procedure. Once the procedure is completed, simple stitches close the skin.
If there is any doubt about the skin lesion, it is sent for pathological analysis once it has been removed. This way, we make sure that it is benign.
Convalescence
We recommend limiting physical exertion for the first week or two following surgery to promote adequate healing. Stitches can be removed after one or two weeks of recovery. As this is a minor cosmetic surgery, complications rarely occur.
