General reconstruction
Being a plastic surgeon involves working with physicians in other specialties to provide reconstructive services.
Complex reconstructions may be needed after cancer treatments (mainly breast cancer or cancer of the face) or major traumas.
My main area of expertise focuses on breast, hand, thoracic and lower limb reconstruction.
In many cases, reconstructions of damaged areas are carried out by transferring some tissues from healthy areas. These reconstructions may need a procedure called microsurgery.
This technique aims to connect blood vessels (arteries and veins) under a microscope in order to restore blood circulation in the transferred tissues. It is used, among other things, for breast reconstruction or finger replantation, or to save limbs from amputation.
